ABOUT MOVIE PROPS
Production made and used artifacts are highly sought after collectibles. An
artifact seen on screen is often referred to as
'screen used' whilst the term
'production made' may refer to a piece made in quantity that is not able to be
identified on screen.
Other terms include 'hero' for a close-up prop, 'stunt'
for a prop or costume used by background or stunt performers, and
'stand-in' for
items of clothing worn by doubles.
For many years public sales of movie props revolved
around the major auction houses in Los Angeles, New York and London.
Collecting movie props as a hobby
has grown with the advent of online auctions including studio sales usually held
to promote
the release of a new movie.
